As a quick and efficient director-for-hire, Umberto Lenzi’s flair never missed the mark. He had a talent for sniffing out trends and delivering exactly what the public demanded: the sensational! Best known for the notorious cannibal orgy "Cannibal Ferox" (“Banned in 31 countries!”), he also invested his skill in Italian genre films like giallo thrillers and polizeischo cop movies. His early giallo "Paranoia" ("Orgasmo") was the first major production to be rated X by the American MPAA. With Carroll Baker as the film’s star and the promise of naked flesh, the film drew huge lines of curious spectators. And while violence and corruption spread like gangrene throughout Italy in the 1970s, it was Lenzi once again who filled the cinemas with his exciting reels of urban justice – featuring moustached policemen, screeching Alfa Romeos and thumping soundtracks. That’s why we start our homage in Bozar, with Lenzi’s masterful poliziesco "Almost Human", accompanied by Calibro 35 playing an exciting live version of the Morricone soundtrack.
Umberto Lenzi is present at the festival from the 22nd until the 24th of March and will personally introduce his films. We will start our hommage on Tuesday the 13 of March with a live soundtrack of Calibro 35 on the film "Almost Human" ("Milano Odia") in Bozar.
