"Le Poisson et La Perle", tells in a very dreamy way the story of a fish who meets a pearl. The pearl turns out to be pretty magical, and the fish finds himself with wings. The adventure can start, and up up up is the first place to go… shall we travel together, and see where we will end up? The sisters Sunyoung and Juhyun Choi first met Pak Yan Lau in 2009 for les Nuits Blanches in Brussels (organised by La Maison De La Création). This encounter (which was initially an improvised moment) grew into a collaboration with a mutual interest in textures, colors and light. With several retro-projecteurs, and a bunch of keyboards, toys and strange instruments they go in search of an oneiric landscape, that soothes the eyes and challenges the ears. This is their first collaboration on a schadowplay for children.

My Skinny Sister dives into the love-hate relationship between siblings as shown through the eyes of chubby and awkward 12-year-old Stella and her anorexic older sister, Katja. My Skinny sister was awarded in many film festival for children in Europe and won the Berlinale Generation competition in 2015.

It is 1981, and one of the coldest winters since ages. In the small village Kars, at the east of Turkey, coals are as valuable as diamonds. Serhat, Gürbüz and İbo take their sled and start searching for coal. During this adventure, they really learn the meaning of solidarity.

The Shamer’s daughter, Dina, has unwillingly inherited her mother’s supernatural ability. She can look straight into the soul of other people, making them feel ashamed of themselves. When the sole heir to the throne is wrongfully accused of the horrible murders of his family, Dina’s mother is lured to Dunark under false pretenses to make him confess. Neglecting to use her ability for the wrong purposes, she is taken prisoner. It is now up to Dina to uncover the truth of the murders, but soon she finds herself whirled into a dangerous power struggle with her own life at risk. In a semi realistic medieval fantasy world with Dragons and Witchcraft, Dina and her family are thrown into the adventure of a lifetime in order to put the rightful heir to the Kingdom of Dunark on the Throne.

A diligent sheep herder, 12-year-old Bayir also cares for his family’s two camels, a mother and her calf. Bayir and his siblings revere the light-coloured young camel, the birth of which their grandfather declared a good omen, so they’re devastated when their father sells it to pay off a debt. When the calf’s distraught mother flees, Bayir sets out to find both camels amidst an ongoing drought. Embarking on his mission with just a few supplies and an oversized motorcycle, he encounters some helpful allies — and great danger. Bayir is determined to make his family proud, and his story provides the audience with a thought-provoking look into a different way of life.

Set in the eighties, young Catherine (12) grows up in a strict protestant farming family in Zeeland, the south of Holland. As the only girl among six brothers, she is hardly involved in daily work and feels left out of the day-to-day conversations at the dining table. Finally, during her brother’s wedding, she literally overwhelms her family with literature, leaving her childhood behind, ready to become who she wants to be.

Meet 15-year-old Charleen. She’s an apprentice at a funeral parlour and is obsessed with dead rock stars as Kurt Cubain After narrowly escaping death by an suicide attempt Charleen’s frantic mother Sabine calls on therapist Dr. Frei to supervise the recovery process. Things start to look up when she meets Linus, a geek from school also on Dr. Frei’s list of patients. This fun and touching debut is a cheeky plea for love of life, even if life rarely turns out the way we expected!

Peter Frye, typical American boy, is orphaned when his parents are caught in the London Blitz. He is not told of their fate, but shuttled from one selfish relative to the next, ending with “Gramp”, a kindly ex-vaudevillean. Peter and Gramp, both fond of “Irish bulls,” get along fine; but the morning after Peter finally learns he’s an orphan, his hair spontaneously turns green! The absurd over-reactions of stupid people overturn his life as the story becomes a parable.

It is 1971. Mirco is a Tuscan child in love with cinema. He loses his eyesight in an accident. At that time, the law regards blind people as handicapped, and does not allow them to attend public school, his parents are forced to send him to an institution.

We would like to welcome you to the premiere of 6 animation films, created by kids from the city of Brussels. The theme of the films will be “the impact of WW one on the daily life in the Belgium capital”. This heritage project “the big war through children’s eyes”, is an initiative of the KIDSCAM animation studio in cooperation of Muntpunt, Bronks, De Pianofabriek, Filem’on, Museum of the city Brussels, VGC Erfgoed, and with support of Visit Brussels, VGC Education and the Flemish communities. We will end the premiere with the winning short movies from the festival Filem’on.
